Reviving Tradition: The Treasured Brew of the Cave

Reimagining Chinese Baijiu Packaging by Tiger Pan

In an era where the old meets the new, Tiger Pan has ingeniously reimagined the packaging of Chinese Baijiu, a traditional alcoholic beverage, by preserving its historical roots while infusing modern aesthetics. This design project, named 'Treasured Brew of the Cave', has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2022.

The previous design of the Baijiu bottle, a classic for the past four decades, posed a challenge for brand owners seeking innovation. Tiger Pan chose to retain the original shape of the bottle, but replaced the porcelain material with glass. The bottle's neck is rounded with rope, and a mountain is carved at the bottom, visually representing the concept of cave storage, a method practiced by the Chinese Miao Minority for a long time.

The 'Treasured Brew of the Cave' stands out due to its unique storage method, known as Dongzang in Chinese Baijiu culture. The high-quality Baijiu is stored in the Miao cave of Wenrun Supermarket for an extended period before bottling. This design retains the significant characteristics of sack bottles, which have a strong impression in China, while conforming to contemporary aesthetics, surpassing consumer expectations.

The use of glass material differentiates this wine from its competitors, who typically use ceramics for packaging. The glass bottle enhances the gloss and texture on the surface. The bottle is left clean and transparent, with the number 6 embedded, highlighting two key aspects of the design. The bottle measures Width98mm x Depth98mm x Height195mm, and the wine box measures Width135mm x Depth135mm x Height300mm.

The design was completed within three months in Shenzhen, with production taking place in Xiangxi City, Hunan Province. The team behind this innovative design includes Tiger Pan as the Creative Director, Qian Chi for Graphic Design, Juanjuan Wu and Sijia Liu for Image Editing, and Zhangkun Xie for Technical Direction.

The 'Treasured Brew of the Cave' design showcases the perfect blend of tradition and modernity, reflecting the brand's commitment to preserving cultural heritage while staying relevant in today's market. This design serves as a testament to the power of innovation in redefining the aesthetics of traditional products.
